Search for a “Green Belt map” and you will mostly find ad graphics, not answers. This guide draws the area in words: where its borders run, how it is divided, and why a project’s position inside the Green Belt should shape your decision.
Where is the Green Belt on the map?
The Green Belt is an urban strip within New October, west of Cairo — south of the older 6th of October City, minutes from New Zayed, and close to the Dahshur link road that connects it to West Cairo’s main axes. The name comes from the district’s planning rules: low construction ratios and wide green areas — which is why most of its projects are villas, not apartment blocks.
Basins: the subdivision nobody explains
The Green Belt is not one piece — authorities divide it into numbered basins, and each basin differs in licensing status and utility readiness. That makes “which basin is the project in?” a far better question than “is the project in the Green Belt?” — we covered this in depth in the complete Green Belt guide.
A practical example: Moon Hills 6 sits in Basin 15 — one of the clearer basins on licensing — and its licences were issued before sales started, not the other way round.
What is inside the Green Belt? (villa projects)
The district has become one of West Cairo’s most active villa areas. From our years on the ground as a developer, here is the map of the six Moon Hills compounds inside it:
- Moon Hills 1 and Moon Hills 2 — fully delivered with residents living there: the area’s oldest living proof.
- Moon Hills 3 — fully sold, construction past 75%.
- Moon Hills 4 — near delivery, bordering New Zayed and officially in the Green Belt.
- Moon Hills 5 — selling now.
- Moon Hills 6 — Basin 15, licences before sales.
3 things to check on any “map” you are shown
- Distance scale: “5 minutes from the axis” can mean 5 minutes as the crow flies — ask for kilometres and check it yourself on Google Maps.
- Actual project borders: some marketing maps draw the project closer to famous landmarks than it really is. The registered address in the contract is the referee.
- The basin number: if the salesperson cannot answer it, that is a signal to ask more questions.
Bottom line
Understand the map before you fall for the project: the Green Belt is an excellent district, but the quality of your spot inside it is set by basin, licences and utilities — not by brochure art. And if you want to walk the area in person, the easiest start is a compound that is already delivered.
